Pro-Life Ministry
We at St John the Evangelist Pro-Life Ministry, under the leadership of Father Bourke and with the parishioners, support and promote PRO-LIFE efforts in many ways. The events through-out the year signify our commitment to protect the unborn. and their mothers, many of whom are in crisis situations. Our efforts at St Johns’ to protect the lives of the unborn and their mothers is done so through organized monthly chapter meetings of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, our annual Baby Shower, Rose Drives, and by our greatest weapon against the sin of abortion, the power of our prayers.
"It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you
wish."

Monthly Meetings - MCFL East Boston/Winthrop Chapter
St. John’s local chapter of MCFL meets on the third Tuesday of every month in the school cafeteria (except during the months of July, August and December) at 7:30 PM. At the grassroots level our members meet to help advocate the pro-life message through education, legislative lobbying, fund-raising and support of crisis pregnancy centers. Each Chapter is comprised of dedicated, hardworking people from all walks of life and is open to all pro-life people.
Please come and help. Bring your talents and help with the most important issue facing us today: the protection of the innocent unborn. If you are interested in attending please call Maureen Papile at 617-846-6313 or if you would like more information about MCFL please call: MCFL at 617-242-4199. MCFL Mission Statement
"In recognition of the fact that each human life is a continuum from conception to natural death, the mission of Massachusetts for Life, Inc. is to promote respect for human life and to defend the right to life of all human beings, born and unborn. We will influence public policy at the local, state and national levels through comprehensive educational, legislative, political and charitable activities."
JUNE FATHERS DAY- ANNUAL ROSE DRIVE
Every Father’s day MCFL sponsors a Rose Drive at St. John’s. Roses are distributed for a donation and all money is used by MCFL for education of the young and to help with bills in our legislation. Right now MCFL is very instrumental having legislation pass a bill giving women all the accurate information necessary before they make a decision to get an abortion.
It is called "The Women’s Right to Know Act" . Women have the right to know all the facts about abortion before making a decision regarding this life changing and sometimes life ending decision. The rose drives help to fund
import ant bills such as these to also aid in the education of children in our schools.
OCTOBER PRO-LIFE MONTH ANNUAL BABY SHOWER
October is respect life month and St. John’s we set up a baby playpen for all to bring gifts for the little ones. It is a wonderful way in which our parishioners can bring some joy to the mothers of these children, born and unborn. The MCFL East Boston/Winthrop chapter purchases the playpen and donates that along with all of the beautiful baby items to ‘A Woman’s Concern’, a pregnancy help center in Revere.
‘A Woman’s Concern’ has various locations through the area and the baby items are very much in need. With grateful hearts and many thanks to St Johns’ parishoners we are able to help fill the need for these children and their mothers in crisis.
PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN
We should make it a habit to pray daily for the lives of the unborn. Here is a very short and easy to remember prayer by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen:
Jesus, Mary, Joseph,
I love you very much.
I beg you to spare the life
of the unborn child
that I have spiritually adopted,
who is in danger of abortion. Amen
