St. Vincent de Paul Society
We are extremely fortunate here at St. John's Parish to have an active conference of volunteers since 1960. The volunteers are lay members of the parish. We donate our time and energy to help the needy in the name of St. Vincent de Paul. Our mission is simple: Help those in need without red tape.
Whether it is food, clothes or financial relief, St. Vincent's there. Founded by Frederick Ozanam in France in 1833, The Society now has over 1,000,000 members in over 130 countries, with over 2,000 members' right here in the Boston Archdiocese. We are financially dependent on the generosity of our faithful parishioners. Every time you make a tax-deductible donation to St. Vincent's you are helping those in need. Whether you donate clothes, furniture, make a monetary donation or list us in your estate, you are making a difference in someone's life!
The mission statement of the Society reads in part: the society collaborates with other people of good will, in relieving need, making no distinction in those we serve, because in them we see the face of Christ. Here at St. John's people place a call to the rectory when a need exists. A pair of Vincentians goes to the home to establish the current situation. Often we provide information regarding state and federal agencies that service Winthrop. Our assistance is limited. We are not a sustaining organization and typically service a family once or twice at a given time.
We hold a Bundle Sunday twice a year in June and in the Fall. At these times, we accept clothing and bedding. For other items you may wish to donate, please contact the Society at 1-800-820- 7837 to arrange for a pick up.
St. Vincent de Paul maintains clothing bins at the following locations:
We have several Thrift Stores; the closest location is in Lynn. For a detailed list of bins and Thrift Stores, visit The Society's web site www.svdpboston.com or call 1-800-820-7837.
All Donations are tax deductible, and the information necessary for your taxes is available on the Society's web site.
Other ways you can contribute to the Society and your local conference is by remembering us in your estate planning, donating a car or shopping in our Thrift Shops.
